Robot Operating System
The Robot Operating System (ROS.org) ia an open source framework based on Linux wich is used for the development of robotic applications. One reason for the high usage of ROS is definetly to compatibilty, meaning that the Robot Operating System can be runned on almost every device wich uses Linux Ubuntu. ROS is a high-performance SDK due to the ongoing development by both technological companies and universities such as the MIT, Clearpath, BMW, Rethnik Robots and Universal Robots. ROS comes with pre-created robot profiles wich can be used from the beginning and also give the user the possibility of creating and configuring own and individual robot profiles in addition to the existing ones. The creation, development and usage of the robot profiles is both intuitive and easy understandable due to the modulare design. Another feature the framework has to offer are the integrated plugins as for instance Gazeboo and RVIZ that enable to visualization of the robot on a graphic surface. The ROS comes with a very cost saving aspect wich is the possibility of simulating indoor navigation and motion sequences before building the robot.
